Leading experts in data governance speak at SQL Privacy Summit

(May 02, 2018)
DMN Newswire--2018-5-2--
The imminent enforcement of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is prompting many data professionals to seek out the latest knowledge from the sharpest minds to ensure compliance. To help those who work with SQL Server, Redgate is hosting a one-day SQL Privacy Summit in London on 18 May featuring a line-up of leading IT governance and data management experts.

The event at the 5-star Grange Tower Bridge Hotel is aimed at SQL Server data professionals responsible for ensuring their business meets the new data privacy and protection regulations. The schedule of presentations, panel discussions and workshops will demonstrate how reliable, repeatable processes can be implemented to ensure the protection of sensitive information across SQL Server estates.

Importantly, the Summit features a range of experts from the data governance field as well as SQL Server. For example, Caroline Carruthers, Group Director of Data Management at Lowell Group and co-author of The Chief Data Officer's Playbook, will talk in the closing keynote about how everything we do is now fueled by data and information. Meanwhile, Steve Jones, Editor of SQLServerCentral.com, the online SQL Server community of nearly two million professionals, will share advice on implementing compliant DevOps strategies.

This, for Steve Jones, is the real value of the event. "There's been a lot of talk about the GDPR, but it's now only weeks away and it's time to focus. There are many different database platforms out there, each with its own challenges in achieving compliance. By bringing together leading thinkers in data governance and SQL Server, attendees will gain the kind of knowledge they can take back to work and start using straight away."

Alongside Steve Jones, other notable SQL Server experts on the stage will include Simon Sabin, data consultant and founder of SQLBits, the largest SQL Server Conference outside North America, Simon Galbraith, CEO of Redgate, the leading SQL Server tools vendor, and William Durkin and Eelco Drost of European data consultancy, Data Masterminds.

The GDPR panel discussion will be of particular value to attendees, with speakers discussing how to put GDPR into practice. Alan Calder, a leading author on information security and data governance, Marco Blasio, Data Management Advisor at PermanentTSB Bank Ireland, James Boother of Coeo, and Ahmed Althamari of PaymentSense will all share their experiences of managing GDPR compliance.

In just one day, the Summit will show the audience of Database Administrators, CIOs, CTOs, Data Protection Officers and Heads of IT how the privacy by design and by default requirement of the GDPR can be met by including the database in DevOps processes.

They'll learn how to create a durable a living record of their SQL Server estate which can be used to maintain GDPR-compliant processes, and discover how to minimize the impact of data breaches while still ensuring reliable data is available for development and testing.

They'll also find out how meeting the obligations of the GDPR can, conversely, deliver significant business benefits because the database DevOps processes that can be used to introduce compliance are the same ones that increase the speed and reliability of database development.

As Annabel Bradford, Redgate's Events Marketing Manager, concludes: "We organize and support many SQL Server related events, and this is one of the most important we'll be hosting in 2018. GDPR compliance isn't a one-off exercise, it's an ongoing requirement, and the Summit will give SQL Server professionals the kind of knowledge they can use now and in the future."

Limited tickets for the SQL Privacy Summit are still available, and further information can be found on the Summit registration page.
