London Film Academy launch Digital Film VFX CourseAimed at 3D animators looking to develop film visual effects skills (April 15, 2007)
DMN Newswire--2007-4-15--Low cost computer technologies and High Definition video are now making the art of digital visual effects (VFX) available to filmmakers at all budget levels, and this growing global industry provides increasing opportunities for new talent.
In light of this, London Film Academy are launching a new 16-week cutting-edge Digital Film VFX Certificate course, with funding assistance from the EU MEDIA Plus scheme. Applicants must have some professional experience of using a 3D animation package and a dedication to work in the film industry.
On this intensive practical course, students create a sequence of VFX shots using a range of leading professional effects software, guided by an experienced VFX Supervisor and working in High Definition resolution.
Core software includes the radically updated Lightwave 3D , extensively used on the hit films "300", "Sin City" and Oscar winning "Pan's Labyrinth", Endorphin , the industry's first Dynamic Motion Synthesis software for 'virtual stunt doubles', 3D terrain generator Vue and camera tracker SynthEyes, used for the award-winning effects on "Pirates of The Carribean: Dead Man's Chest" along with Adobe Production Studio's ubiquitous Photoshop and After Effects running on the latest Apple MacPro systems.
Students completing the course will develop a thorough understanding of the entire visual effects production process, including shot breakdown and pre-visualisation, practical on-set techniques, matchmoving and set extensions, crowd elements and motion capture, digital terrain and matte painting, rendering and compositing techniques.
Starting 11 th June 2007, the main 12-week full-time tuition is based in West London , followed by 4 weeks internet based open project work with student access to course tutors and render farm.
Designed by Course Leader Dave Barnard, Post Supervisor on the recent cult CG fantasy "Mirrormask" with Lead Tutor Alan Marques, a highly respected VFX Supervisor with credits ranging from Werner Herzog to James Bond, the course has support from a number of VFX industry companies and specialists.
