Mashable Unveils Innovation Index 2012(November 27, 2012)
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 27, 2012
Mashable, the leading source of news, information and resources for the Connected Generation, announces the Innovation Index program presented by Visa. Mashables Innovation Index celebrates the standout tech, digital and social innovations of 2012. Mashable assembled a curated panel of experts including Martha Stewart, Stacy London of What Not to Wear, Chris Hughes from the New Republic and many more, to highlight those that have inspired them throughout the year.
In the tech space, one year is a long time with ninety percent of the worlds data created in the past two years alone and smartphone penetration reaching a critical mass of 50% in the US--companies are emerging, folding, being acquired, and pivoting at a rapid pace. New technologies replace those that were once cutting-edge, and startups dictate what people want and need by dreaming up and introducing new gadgets and apps.
To highlight these technology advances, the Innovation Index outlines 15 categories that have been disrupted by digital: 14 of which are curated by an expert selected because of their work in the space, and one category that was chosen by Mashables own community. For the 15th category, Mashable hosted a contest whereby community members apply to be the expert. Each community applicant proposed a category and five innovative nominees, and Mashables editorial team selected its favorite, Sports. On November 27, that category went live on the Innovation Index.
At Mashable, were immersed in the digital and tech sphere all day, every day, so we thought it appropriate to step back and admire some of the best innovations of the past year with the Innovation Index, said Sharon Feder, Chief Operating Officer, Mashable. A program like this allows us to celebrate leadership, inspiration and creativity -- three things both Mashable and our partner Visa find imperative for success.
What better way to launch our digital wallet service V.me, than through a collaboration with Mashable on the first-ever Innovation Index where innovation is at the heart of what were collectively achieving, said Jennifer Schulz (@Jen_Schulz), global head of eCommerce, Visa Inc. As the payments industry has seen unprecedented change, we realize other sectors are also rapidly transforming and were honored to highlight their expertise as we look forward to rewarding the very best in technology, digital and social innovations.
