The Dramatic Thriller Old River Road, a Feature Screenplay Written by Luciana Lagana and Gregory Graham, is on blcklst.com for Your Consideration

  (January 17, 2013)

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 17, 2013

Actor and businessman Gregory Graham and his wife, actress and Los Angeles Professor of Psychology Luciana Lagana, have just posted their feature screenplay on The Black List website. This screenplay is based on true events from Gregorys childhood and early adulthood in rural Iowa and offers an intriguing combination of action, drama, thriller, and crime, touching upon topics such as bullying and environmental issues. Luciana and Gregory are eager to receive feedback about this script and to discuss its potential with interested directors, producers, and other industry insiders.

I feel that our heartfelt, action-packed screenplay makes an advocacy statement that is important and needs to be relayed to vast audiences, as a variety of minority and advocacy groups could relate to it, Gregory said. This hard-working and creative businessman has been an actor in Hollywood for over 12 years, and started writing screenplays over the past couple of years. The idea of screenwriting came to me in a somewhat peculiar way. I would get scripts for parts that I was asked to memorize, either for auditions or for roles I had booked, and sometimes I would be drawn to find interesting ways to make them better. A few times, I politely offered my editing ideas to some producers during auditions. I wouldnt book those roles, but later on discovered that they had used my ideas to enhance the quality of their project, which I guess is flattering in a way, Gregory said.

Eventually, my wife decided it was time for me to stop being a back-seat screenwriter so we started writing our own SAG/AFTRA television series (which is in pre-production) and then, upon the urging of a friend who is a script consultant, we wrote a spec teleplay for the television series Californication, entitled Soup Kitchen.

Soup Kitchen, although not picked up by the network yet, has been nominated as best teleplay at two screenplay competitions, the 2012 Hollywood Screenplay Contest and the 2012 Los Angeles Screenplay Competition. Luciana and Gregory have gained several accolades in the past few months for screenwriting and producing, as reported in their last press release.

At the end of Spring 2012, while taking a screenwriting class taught by NYU Professor Marilyn Horowitz, Gregory had a revelation. I was trying to figure out what to write about next, when Marilyn, using a very determined tone, told me that I should write my own story. That was a simple yet brilliant suggestion. I thought to myself, I am the expert of my life; this should be easy. That laid the ground work for Old River Road, said Gregory. I worked closely with Luciana for several months, developing the foundation of the screenplay while she created many scenes and meticulously improved the quality of each scene using several rounds of re-writes. It was certainly not as easy as I thought; a lot of hard work went into it. I would focus on the action and humor, like I did on prior projects, while Luciana would concentrate on bringing to life the relationships, especially in the dramatic and romantic scenes. I remember one evening when I told her that I thought Old River Road didnt have enough action. She emphatically responded that there was too much action! Luciana stated enthusiastically that This conversation made me realize that, together, we can bring a proper balance to a screenplay, which is important, so that all sorts of audiences can find something in our work that they can strongly identify with.

Old River Road has been through several re-writes and has been read by some producers in the past few months, Luciana said, concluding that We have been told by the President of the Los Angeles Screenplay Competition Rafael Primorac that Old River Road is worthy of being a finalist or even a winner if submitted to 2013 festival. 2012 was a rewarding year for us as a husband-and-wife writing team. In the future, it would be great for Old River Road to become a highly downloaded script and for us to start fielding inquiries from literary agents and producers.
