Wayne Boggs, Star of the Upcoming TV Series ?Air Boss,? Wins ICAS ?Sword of Excellence? Aviation Association Award

Renowned Air Show Boss and Brother of Major League Hall-of-Famer Wade Boggs Earns Prestigious Award (January 22, 2013)
DMN Newswire--2013-1-22--
Oshkosh, WI ? January 22, 2013 ? FourPoints Television Production, producers of the popular PBS series ?The Aviators? and the forthcoming television docuseries ?Air Boss,? is proud to announce that air show director and aerial choreographer Wayne Boggs has won the International Council of Air Shows? (ICAS) ?Sword of Excellence? award.  Boggs, whose occupation is known in the industry as ?Air Boss,? is the star of the new FourPoints reality series of the same name estimated to debut during the 2014 spring television season.

The Sword of Excellence Award is one of the most esteemed accolades in the business.  It was presented to Boggs for his outstanding leadership role in the air show community over the last quarter century.  In addition to his accomplishments as an air boss, and as a mentor to aspiring flight performers, Boggs serves on the Board of Directors of both the ICAS Foundation and EAA?s (Experimental Aircraft Association) Warbirds of America organization.  Boggs was presented with the award at the ICAS Convention, held December 2012 in Las Vegas, NV.
A former Marine and air traffic controller, he hails from a family of overachievers:  His brother is Major League Hall of Fame baseball player Wade Boggs.  A professional air boss for more than 20 years, Boggs rose to the top of his field after decades of aviation experience throughout the country.

?We?re extremely proud of Wayne?s achievement with the ICAS,? said Anthony Nalli, an executive producer with FourPoints Television and one of the hosts of The Aviators.  ?He?s the best-of-the-best in a notably heroic field, and he certainly has earned his stripes when it comes to industry expertise.  We can?t think of anyone more deserving of the air show industry?s top honor, or anyone we?d rather showcase with our latest aviation docuseries. His job personifies bravery, showmanship and exhilaration.?

Attended by tens of millions across the country annually, air shows are growing in mainstream popularity, and Boggs? events are considered the finest in the aviation universe.  He routinely oversees events such as the Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida; the colossal Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach State Park in New York; and the security-ridden Andrews
Air Show at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, DC, attended by the President of the United States.

On the new series, Boggs leads a team of talented and sometimes egomaniacal stunt pilots through some of the most rigorous routines in the industry, traveling from event to celebrated event, dealing with clashing personalities and overambitious up-and-comers looking to elbow their way into Boggs? job.  With the threat of fire, injury and even death looming with every presentation, Air Boss is a high-stakes game of sky-borne Russian roulette, played out live in front of hundreds of Americans at a time, show after show.  Yet Boggs is enduringly devoted to his profession.

?It?s a great honor to receive this recognition from ICAS,? said Boggs.  ?Ours is an exciting but arduous business in which the respect of your peers is a true measure of merit.  When you?ve seen friends and colleagues die in front of you, under your watch, it humbles you.  It makes you understand how privileged you are to be able to continue in this vocation.  I?m thrilled that I?ve been able to spend my life doing what I love.?
