First Portable Computer to Incorporate Newest Intel Xeon Processors, Up To 8 Processing Cores, On Exhibit at Interop LV '07(May 18, 2007)
DMN Newswire--2007-5-19--NextComputing (http://www.nextcomputing.com), creators of the first flextop computer, announce the availability of the low voltage 50W version of Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor 5300 Series on its NextDimension family of portable computers. The company will be demonstrating the NextDimension Evo HD, featuring 8 processor cores, at Interop Las Vegas 2007, booth 169 in the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada.
NextComputings NextDimension Pro and Evo models combined with the Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor 5300 Series are the perfect technology combination allowing you to do more with less. Up to 8 cores are available in the briefcase sized supercomputer, making it the first portable computer or open standards appliance to have this capability.
At only 50W per processor (12.5W per core), Intel has improved the power efficiency by nearly 10 times over its previous single core Intel Xeon processor-based servers in the market last year. These new 50W Quad-Core products offer users 35% less processor power consumption at the same performance level as the mainstream 80W Quad-Core versions. These capabilities add up to higher performance per watt and better energy efficiency, making these processors ideal for highly dense, power sensitive platforms like the NextDimension series of flextops (http://www.nextcomputing.com/products/nextdim.shtml).
NextComputing prides itself on innovation and staying ahead of the needs and trends of its targeted industries. In the Datacom/Telecom field, the company recognized a need for an open standards, portable, high performance system that would serve more than one function. This newest breed of flextops is intended to make applications like data monitoring, troubleshooting, traffic generating, recording, and any task requiring high performance and throughput rates, easy and portable.
NextComputing achieves this level of performance through its combination of three key elements: high performance processing, maximum storage capacity, and modular I/O options. Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor 5300 Series provide the most advanced multi-core technology available. Seagate Technology provides maximum storage with the worlds first 7200-RPM notebook hard drive with 160GB capacity, its latest Seagate® Momentus® 2.5 drives. Up to 12 of these drives can be configured into the NextDimension Evo model. I/O options are maximized in the Evo with up to (4) high performance PCI or PCIe slots.
?NextComputing sees the use of the Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor 5300 Series as a crucial component of the technology mix that keeps us ahead of the game in the datacom and telecom industries, said Bob Labadini, President and CTO of NextComputing. ?We will continue to support the newest multi-core processing technology going forward.
?Seagate is pleased to be working with NextComputing to deliver unprecedented performance for mobile computing, said Joni Clark, Seagate Product Marketing Manager.
All components of the system are open standards, and modular, making it truly a plug and play machine that can be configured and reconfigured to suit the needs of the end user or OEM. Other key features enhancing the functionality of the NextDimension Evo include an onboard hardware RAID controller for up to (6) SAS drives, onboard SATA support for up to (8) drives, IEEE 1394 (FireWire), Audio Line-in/out, (2) Gigabit Ethernet ports, and up to 24GB memory via (4) DMA channels.
"With the Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor 5300 Series in its line of portable flextop computers, end-users will enjoy the performance of 8 processor cores and maintain the convenience of laptop-like portability, said Jake Smith, Intel Server Marketing Manager.
